FULL MEMBER
Members will normally be a graduate of a university or other tertiary institution with a major in earth sciences, or a graduate actively engaged in work related to the earth sciences. In special circumstances the Executive Committee may approve for Membership: (a) persons who have been employed in some technical aspect of earth sciences for a period of at least five years; or (b) persons who have undertaken and published results of research in the earth sciences
ASSOCIATE MEMBER
There are no specific qualifications required of Associate Members, but every candidate for election must be at least 18 years old, and should produce evidence of a genuine interest in the earth sciences. A school or other non-commercial group may become an Associate Member. People who are eligible for Membership cannot be Associate Members, unless normally resident outside Australia.
JOINT MEMBER
A candidate for election as a Joint Member must fulfil all the requirements of a Member with the stipulation that they be the recognised partner of an existing Member. Joint Members retain all privileges other than the right to receive the journal.
RETIRED MEMBER
A Member of at least ten years who has retired from professional practice. Retired Members retain all privileges and have the option of membership with or without the journal.
STUDENT MEMBER
To be eligible for student membership a person must be an enrolled student (full-time or part-time) attending a tertiary educational institution or a secondary school, studying earth sciences. They must provide certification from their Head of Department. The membership fee is waived for honours students applying for GSA membership.

AFFILIATE MEMBER
Professionals in other disciplines who are not eligible to join as Society Members are able to join Specialist Groups within the Society if employed in, or genuinely interested in, specialist areas of earth science. Affiliates are Australian residents and Correspondents are non-residents. Candidates for both categories must satisfy the appropriate Specialist Group that they are eligible to join.
